Adolfo Lagos Espinosa was on a bicycle tour in the State of Mexico on November 20, 2017. He was followed by two bodyguards in an SUV. Two armed men came out of the bushes. One of the bodyguards fired a 9 mm. pistol at the assailants, and hit Lagos Espinosa instead. He was taken to a hospital in the town of Coacalco, State of Mexico, and died there.
Lagos Espinosa was the Vice-President of Telecommunications for Televisa, and the CEO of the cable provider Izzi Telecom. Televisa is big; they are the largest mass media company in the Spanish-speaking world. They are a partner of Univision in the US. They have historic ties to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has condemned the murder.
