Martín Valtierra García was assaulted by hooded individuals as he arrived at his home in Ciudad Constitución, BCS after 8 PM on January 30, 2019. He was hit on the head, legs, and arms with baseball bats. He is in stable condition.
Valtierra García is the director of the news site Contrastes de Comondú. The BCS Network of Journalists said that Valtierra García has been a critical voice in Baja California Sur. He had recently filed a complaint over failures in public services.
According to Valtierra García, the men with the bats arrived in a municipal government car, so it’s highly likely that the local mayor was responsible. This car was later found, burned out to obscure fingerprints.
