Jesús Hiram Moreno was attacked by a gunman on March 20, 2019 at 4 PM, as he was leaving a convenience store in Salina Cruz, OAX after buying a bottle of water. he received two bullet wounds, one in the arm, and one in the back. He was treated at a hospital, and released.
Hiram Moreno was under the protection of the Oaxaca state police for nearly a month after the shooting. That protection was withdrawn, and Hiram Moreno announced on April 19 that he was starting a hunger strike. He is demanding that the Federal Secretary of the Interior provide security for him and his family. He pointed out that a local gas station has had a 24-hour police escort for the past six years.
Hiram Moreno is a reporter for and the director of Evidencias, a weekly based in Istmo de Tehuantepec, OAX. He had recently been attacking impunity and corruption.
