Alejandra Jiménez García

Alejandra Jiménez García, a reporter for the radio station La Zeta Zacapu in Zacapu, MIC, received a threatening hand-written note on May 23, 2019. It contained language along the lines of “you’re going to pay with your ass.”

Jiménez García has drawn unwelcome attention because of her accusations that forest fires in Michoacán are being set deliberately in order to force changes in usage of forests. Illegal logging and illegal usage of forest land for things such as growing avocados are a common problem in Michoacán. Forest destruction also harms monarch butterfly habitat.

Jiménez García has also received threatening phone calls, and has often been followed by a car. She has filed complaints the municipalities of Zacapú and Puruándiro, and asked the Office of the Attorney General for protection.

Jiménez García also reports for Noticias Hoy LP and Notivisión de Quiroga.
