WE CONDEMN THE MURDERS OF JOURNALISTS
San Miguel PEN is alarmed and dismayed by the sharp increase in the number of journalists being murdered worldwide, most recently the targeted killing of 10 Palestinian journalists in Gaza. We stand with PEN International in condemning all attacks on freedom of expression, from harassment and intimidation to imprisonment to murder.

Our Mission
In 1979, Peter Elstob founded the San Miguel chapter of PEN International, an association of writers with 145 Centers in 104 countries. We remain a welcoming, dedicated grassroots organization in the city of San Miguel de Allende.
Promoting friendship and intellectual cooperation among writers everywhere, PEN represents the conscience of literature, and vigorously defends writers worldwide who have been persecuted for their work. In 1987, San Miguel PEN began their popular Winter Lecture Series to raise funds for their heroic efforts.

San Miguel PEN at 2024 PEN International Congress, Oxford
The eve of the PEN International Annual Congress, this time in Oxford, was chilly and sodden. I arrived at night. Flood alerts lighted up my phone.
